A "message" from Message - Daylight Savings Time Comes Early

This coming Saturday night, Canadians will be losing an hour’s sleep as Daylight Savings Time kicks in a few weeks early.  The good news for home buyers and sellers is it just might shed some new light on what’s already expected to be an active Spring housing market.

In a measure to save energy, the U.S. government enacted a law that extended the hours when Daylight Savings time would be in effect.  Canada soon followed suit, not only save energy, but also to avoid confusion in our dealings with our number one trading partner, the U.S.  The new system goes into effect this year.   For the first time ever, Daylight Savings time starts in March, instead of April.

From now on, Daylight Savings time will begin at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in March and will conclude on the first Sunday in November.  In 2007, that means Daylight Savings Time will fall between March 11 and November 4, so remember to ‘spring’ your clocks ahead one hour when you go to bed this Saturday night.

Everyone from coast to coast will be enjoying the extra light in the evenings after March 11th and home buyers and sellers are no exception.  Buyer showings typically increase as the weather improves and daylight hours increase, so an extra hour of daylight every evening may very well ‘kick start’ the Spring market to an early start.  Sellers will benefit from the increased curb appeal that the extra daylight offers, while home interiors will look at their bright and appealing best.  This Spring is forecast to be a good real estate market, with sales nearing record levels and home values continuing to appreciate.  And with an extra hour of daylight to do business in for almost a month, we’re looking for the Spring market to be robust and lively!  If you’d like to know more about your local real estate market conditions, and how your area is shaping up for spring sales, why not contact your local Coldwell Banker real estate professional.  It could just be the best call you’ll make all year!
